Kay (Karen) Masterson is co-owner, along with her husband Kevin, of Johnny's Luncheonette and Cabot’s Restaurant and Ice Cream both in Newton, MA. She and Kevin formerly owned and operated Nourish Restaurant (2009-2014) in Lexington, MA, and Big Fresh Café (2003-2009) in Framingham, MA. She has worked with local farmers, and other small regional businesses for many years to provide responsibly sourced food at respectful prices. She is thrilled to be able to keep these two iconic businesses going as they are both such an important part of their local communities. Welcoming diversity of every sort through their doors daily is what they do!
Her businesses support a wide variety of local efforts including arts and culture through Spark Newton, the Boys and Girls Club in Newton and the Carroll Center for the Blind.
She has served on the boards of RIA house, Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance, Green America (formerly Coop America), Natick Community Organic Farm, and Sustainable Business Network of Greater Boston.
Kay has been recognized for her community-based business efforts with several awards, including most recently recognition by Mass Recycle for the waste reduction strategies she has implemented at Johnny’s.
Kay is passionate about growing food and supporting our local farmers. She works throughout the growing season to dry, can, freeze and ferment local produce to be enjoyed by her family throughout the late fall and winter.
