Rafael Torres

Rafael Andres Torres, President and founder of Don Quijote Tours of New England, Inc. a multi-lingual receptive tour operator company, based in Boston, providing first-class inbound services to foreign visitors in, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish in the Greater Boston Area and in the New England region.

Rafael immigrated to the United States from Colombia. He resides in Quincy, MA with his wife Maria Cristina and is the proud father of two daughters and grandfather of three grandchildren.

When he began his career in the tourism industry as a tour guide in 1991, he found this extremely rewarding and fascinating.  By being multicultural and bilingual he knew that he could grow in the business and soon saw its great potential. Studied at the University of Mass and simultaneously had several jobs related to education for the newcomers to Boston.  As the Assistant Director of the YMCA-International branch he quickly learned the need to formally work as a tour operator since part of his responsibilities were to tour and entertain YMCA executives from all round the world as well as supervise the adult education programs.

Due to his years of service with this unique market, Mr. Torres  received the Empowerment Recognition Award, for the personal advocacy demonstrated by  enhancing the cause of global diversity an empowerment, (May 2010), recipient of the “AMBASSADOR’S CLUB EXPORT AWARD, Jan. 2011 from the U.S embassy in Madrid in recognition to the contribution to attracting Spanish Visitors to the United States, presented by Alan D. Solomont, Ambassador for the USA in Madrid Spain.  Recipient of the Larry D. Meehan Award given in recognition to the contributions to the Growth and Vitality of the Massachusetts Tourism industry (Sept. 2012). Mr. Torres was nominated by the office of the Boston City councilor Annissa Essaibi as a recipient of the 2017- DAVID ORTIZ DESIGNATED HITTER.

With the creation of Don Quijote Tours, he designed a service to a specific niche market not served before and with this line of work, had the privilege of serving high dignitaries as His Majesty Juan Carlos, King of Spain, Mr. Jose Maria Aznar, President of Spain and several South American presidents, famous movie stars, singers, and VIP leaders of business and industry.

For several years, in conjunction with MEETBOSTON, participated in world market and tourism conventions, worked tirelessly to cultivate key contacts in Spain and Latin America countries, and participated in tradeshows and conventions in several countries, including Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Spain.

Member of the GBCVB Board of Director for the last 24 years, Member of the Boston Concierge association for 36 years.
